Case Study of In Place Inclinometer Data
IPI at Msheireb Station (Package 5), Major Stations, Doha Metro
Excavation for Msheireb Station, approximately 40 m below ground level is one of the deepest excavations for the metro in the Middle East. Instrumentation & monitoring thus played an important role in the project. The instrumentation and monitoring scheme implemented by Encardio-rite was a mix of automatic and manual monitoring. The inclinometers were a key component of the automatic monitoring and gave vital information on diaphragm wall deformations. Data was available on the project’s web-based data monitoring service in real-time with automatic e-mail alerts.
IPI at Cabo Raj Bhavan (Governor’s House) – Slope stability of Cabo Hill
To monitor the distressed unstable slopes of Cabo Hill, GSI recommended field monitoring through instrumentation. The instrumentation scheme included monitoring of slope movement, settlement, water pressure and ground cracks. The inclinometers played an important role in monitoring the slope deformations. Automatic logging of IPIs was done twice a day in the rainy season – May to September and once a day during the remaining months. The data was available online in real-time on the web-based data monitoring service with automatic e-mail alerts.
IPI at Plot-13 Deira Waterfront Development
The Plot-13 project involved heavy construction activities adjacent to the existing Dubai Metro Green Line tunnel and the Al Shindagha road tunnel. Instrumentation and monitoring became necessary for the safety of the two tunnels. IPIs were used for monitoring subsurface lateral movements that may have affected the existing tunnels due to excavation and dewatering activities. The automatic logging of IPIs was done every 4 hours with a near real-time display on the web-based data monitoring service with automatic e-mail alerts.
